The City of York Parks and Recreation Department recently planted 28 new trees across Miller Park, Duke Park, and the Ballpark Complex thanks to support from the Trees for Nebraska Towns (TNT) grant program.
The TNT program, managed by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, supports communities in creating more sustainable, beautiful, and livable spaces through strategic tree planting.
York Parks and Recreation staff spent over three hours planting all 28 trees, with a team of seven employees working together to enhance these key community spaces. The new trees will not only provide shade and aesthetic value, but also improve air quality, support wildlife habitat, and help manage stormwater.
“Planting trees is one of the simplest, most impactful things we can do for our parks and our future,” said Cheree Folts, Director of Parks and Recreation. “These trees will grow alongside our community for generations, and we’re proud to be part of a program that invests in both people and place.”
The newly planted trees include a variety of species chosen for their resilience and adaptability to Nebraska’s climate. The department will continue to monitor and care for the trees to ensure they establish strong root systems and thrive in their new environments.
