YORK – A beautiful new floor is now installed at the historic York City Auditorium.
The floor work was done by Leechman Flooring, with a price tag of $24,385.
The resurfacing of the floor was part of a project recently undertaken at the auditorium, which was funded by a grant from the York County Visitors Bureau. The funds came from the Visitors Improvement Fund, which is generated by local lodging tax – intended for drawing people to York County and encouraging more overnight stays.
In early December, the York County Commissioners approved a $100,000 YCVB grant for this project, as well as to purchase a new marquee sign and new stage lighting.
“The city auditorium sees a lot of events, of many different kinds,” York Parks and Recreation Director Cheree Folts said during an earlier interview. “In the last fiscal year, 985 events were held in auditorium. It gets used by so many people we want to keep it maintained as an attraction in York County.”
York County Commissioner Randy Obermier, who also sits on the YCVB Board, said at the time of the grant approval, “some of us remember going to basketball games there when we were younger and it’s fun to see it still be used for the CRC games, kind of brings us back. It is an iconic building, it holds a lot of history, it is a destination and it is well used.”
