YORK – Cheree Folts, York’s parks and recreation director, has announced David Pratt, complex maintenance supervisor, has earned his certified playground safety inspector certification through the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
“The CPSI certification is the most recognized credential in playground safety, equipping professionals with the knowledge to ensure public play spaces are safe, compliant and properly maintained,” Folts said.
Pratt has been employed with the City of York since 2022 and oversees operations at the York Ballpark Complex and York Soccer Complex. He supervises one full-time employee and a team of 25 part-time and seasonal staff who support York’s athletic and recreational facilities.
A graduate of York High School and Fort Hays State University, where he earned a degree in Sports Management, Pratt brings both local roots and professional expertise to his role.
“David’s commitment to professional growth and safety excellence is a huge asset to our community,” Folts said. “His dedication helps ensure that York’s parks and facilities remain safe, welcoming spaces for everyone to enjoy.”

Folts said this designation will “save the city multiple thousands of dollars because we will have a CPSI on staff and we will no longer have to hire a CPSI to perform our playground inspections.”
